How long does it take to get used to a new mattress?

My girlfriend and I just bought a new bed from Big Lots. Its a Serta Courtland Perfect Sleeper. She loves it but every morning I wake up with my shoulders aching because I sleep on my side. She says that with a few weeks time, I’ll get used to it and won’t ache anymore. Is this true?

Normally, the only problem is the time it takes to forget what the old mattress felt like. There could still be problems since you sleep on your side. You may also need to change pillows since you are probably more elevated with the new mattress.
