What is the difference between memory foam and tempurpedic?
We are wanting to buy a mattress, but we don’t know which one to choose. Does anyone have any recommendations or information on which is more comfortable?

I believe memory foam is a generic term for what Tempur-pedic sells. I answered this because I have to tell you that about a year and a half ago I stayed at a hotel that had Tempur-pedic mattresses and loved it. It took a few month to convince myself it was worth the price, but I bought one. No regrets at all. If you wrote the question because you are considering purchasing this type of mattress, so with the name-brand. There is a bit of getting used to (like you don’t bounce out of bed because there are no springs), but I believe you won’t regret it. I’ve read some people thing they’re hot in the summer and others think they’re cold in the winter. I didn’t have that experience at all.
Tempur-Pedic is a trademarked (and patented) form of memory foam. It is also the originator of the concept of memory foam, and is generally held to produce the best-quality memory foam products, from slippers to mattresses.
Here’s the thing about memory foam – to do what it does, it conducts heat. That means, it uses your body’s heat to "activate" the foam’s ability to mold to your body. While it’s certainly true that your body’s weight is a significant factor, heat comes into play. The negative impact of this body heat is that it does not dissipate.
Practically speaking, if you are always looking for the cool spot on your bed (or pillow), a memory foam sleep system may not be best for you. If you hate being hot when you sleep, such a system may not be right for you. (If you’re okay with the extra expense of memory foam, look into a Sleep Number bed; just as comfortable but not as hot.)
The only major difference is the price. All USA made mattresses based on memory foam must live up to the same regulatory requirements set forth by the government.
Look into getting a ‘miracle foam’ mattress topper before you buy a new mattress. I just slept at one at my mother’s for a week, and I can’t wait to get one. It’s about 2" thick memory foam.
