why is buying a mattress and/or carpet such a consumer unfriendly process?
For both mattress and carpets the manufactures use different names at different stores. WTF? why do these consumer unfriendly modes of business continue in 2007?

I haven’t had much problem buying carpeting, because I shop at a locally owned store where I see the owner almost everyday around town. I do know what you mean about mattresses though. Have you noticed that they rarely have a set price and always seem to be on sale? I suspect that the manufacturers do not want people to realize that it only costs them a few dollars to make them, and they want to continue their maddening ways of business purely for profit.
I’ve always figured it’s cause these products are similar to a car.. most ppl dont purchase these things many times, so the companies have to take advantage and maximize their profit. Companies that sell soap, cookies, etc. dont have to worry about squeezing every cent out of you, they will get it all in the long run!
shop small business’s, you’ll get the straight and skinny on what’s what, if they want to stay in business. i walked out of two bed stores because the salesmen wouldn’t get out of my face. i spent over an hour and a half on the mattress’s in the store where i did buy ours, and am still happy with it 5 years later(simmons beauty rest). same goes with cars, we were loyal GM buyers until the 2001 buick regal, it started to blow oil, a qt. every 3,000 miles by 40,000 miles! we traded the previous car because it did that at 95,000. can you believe this, according to GM, that is acceptable!!! guess that explains the trouble they are in now, huh? suffice to say, we now drive an ’07 bmw 328xi, thanks for the motivation GM. except for tires, everything is covered for 6 years, 100,000 miles, so it will probably end up costing us less than the buick did, and what a ride!! 6 speed manual, and it goes so quick that i’ll probably get in trouble with the cops, but it doesn’t feel like you’re going that fast. who says revenge ain’t sweet!! the old lady actually smiles on her drive to work in the morning now! even on mondays!
