buying a mattress – help!?

Hello! After doing quite a bit of research, I know that every single retailer/store sells mattresses under different names. Now…I’ve narrowed it to 3 mattresses and I have a feeling they may be the same one, so I hope you can help with:
1. identifying if they are indeed the same mattress
2. estimating a good price for them and how low you think I can go. I know that the markup is huge and I want to make sure I don’t overpay.

All 3 mattresses are Simmons, Beautyrest, Classic in full size. The names are:

1. Macy’s : Sunflower Luxury firm. Retail price: 99 (on sale for 9) with free delivery and old bed removal

2. Sleepy’s: Hamlet Luxury Firm Retail price: 99 (got it down to (0) with delivery charge

3. 1800mattress: Bethea Luxury Firm: Retail price (was not given one but told me they could sell it for 9) with delivery charge.

Thank you for your input!

Should I get a pillowtop mattress?

For the past 15 years that I’ve been married, we’ve always had a mattress on the cheaper side since we couldn’t really afford the decent ones. The mattresses never seem to last and my back is usually hurting in the mornings. Funny thing is we have one of those overstuffed cushy couches. If I sleep there I don’t have back problems. I’m thinking I need a pillowtop mattress. I tried out a few mattresses the other day and the most comfy was a Super Pillowtop by Simmons Beautyrest. We have always had either a full or a queen – I also think we need to go one step bigger to King size. What kind of mattress do you sleep on? I honestly haven’t had a true decent night’s sleep much at all.
Cottonlilly: I’m so glad to hear someone else is having similar issues like myself. So that Queensize bed – the double pillowtop your MIL bought is the one your husband likes to sleep on? My husband is 5’10 and about 225lbs I’m only 5’3 but I don’t feel like we have enough room on the bed – he always asks me to scoot over (go figure he’s almost twice MY size! Lol). Anyway, I think we’ll splurge a tad and get the Kingsize.

How to buy a mattress…can it be more confusing?

So, we realized we need a new mattress. A serious "grown up" mattress, not some knock off for 0. I’ve heard of the major brands (Sealy, Simmons, Serta), but now that I’m trying to research them, it makes my head spin.

No two stores seem to carry the same models. Macy’s has a Simmons Beautyrest Classic "Felicia Ltd." while Sit n’ Sleep has the Simmons "Frasier River" model. Are they the same mattress underneath with a different style pillow top?

Anyone know of a decent site that reviews mattresses or have suggestion about how to tackle this? I know we have to try them out, I’d just like to educate myself first.

New twin mattress gives me pain – please help!?

I had been sleeping on a borrowed roller bed for the past 9 months. Too soft. So I put some wood boards underneath the mattress. It was still too soft and had been giving me a lot of body pain. So I finally went to the store two days ago to look for a firmer, good quality mattress set. I tried Simmons Beautyrest Cunningham Plush a few times, lying on it for 10, 15 minutes each. It felt pretty comfortable. After the mattress set arrived yesterday, I took a nap on it for about two hours – slept like a baby. Felt absolutely no pain when I got up. Then after sleeping on it overnight, I got up this morning feeling pain all over like when I was sleeping on the roller bed. Perhaps this mattress is too soft after all and sinks after someone sleeps on it for 8 hours straight? The info I got from the store says: "Expect your new mattress to develop indentations called ‘body impressions’ during the first several weeks of use. These impressions are normal, and were anticipated in the desig
"in the design of your mattress. As the padding layers compress, the performance of your mattress will actually improve. Body impressions up to 1 1/2 inches will remain throughout the life of the mattress and are not a warranty concern." So does this mean that the mattress will actually get firmer as the time goes? Will it really take a month? I really can’t stand the pain any longer. Please help.

is it the foam or the coils that makes you sink into a mattress?

I bought a new simmons beautyrest with pillowtop and when I sit on the bed, I sink deep into it. When I move on the bed, I roll back into the pit I created where I was. I’m going to switch for another mattress, but I’m wondering what is causing this. Is it all the layers of foam (memory foam does this I think) or is it the individual spring coils? My upper body sinks in and my feet (that weigh less) are sort of up in the air, giving the feeling of sleeping downhill.

Should I get a traditional continuous spring mattress (maybe a stearns and foster) with minimal cushion on top? Or just another simmons beautyrest but without the pillowtop (a "firm" or "extra firm" instead)? Hubby and I like the idea of non-transference of movement (I move a ton and he doesn’t move an inch) but if it’s going to make me feel like I’m sleeping "downhill", then we’ll trade that in for firmness.

Fluff my pillow?

I’m long overdue for a chiropractic appointment, but can’t afford it. So to avoid losing feeling in my arms, I bought a brand new Simmons beautyrest pillow. It did wonders and within 2 days, the numbness stopped. But now the pillow is flattened, and my problems are back. What’s the best way to fluff it back up to what it was like when I bought it? I thought about putting it in the dryer, is that a good idea? Any other ideas?

When buying a mattress?

I think I like Queen Simmons Beautyrest. I tried one at the store, and it felt right. I can’ remember the model name. It was a firm one which was fine. However, based on my research there are many many Queen Simmons Beautyrest that has different name after the make name. However, as long as I stay in the same price range with similar description for Queen Simmons Beautyrest, they all should be about the same?
Also, what was your experience with Queen Simmons Beautyrest if you had any or your opinion on this particular make. It has slightly more coils than Sealy of same size. I think the more coils it has the better the mattress is.

Buying new mattress… which is best?

Right now I have a bed that is terrible… it "squeaks" soooo bad and is not comfortable. I would like not to spend more than 00. I was told the tempur pedic is overrated. Then I was looking in Sealy PosturePedic but heard that people have backaches from it. Now I’m looking at Simmons Beautyrest and these are kinda expensive… but if they are great I am willing to buy one. (Also I heard pillow tops are overrated, is this true?) What is the best mattress in your opinion?

Thank you to those who answered so far.

Ladybanashe and Maxine: I have pain all over my body (most of the joints – including TMJ – I have a mouth guard that I wear at night), and I’m only 31. This can’t be normal. I thought that it might be due to:
1) Soft mattress
2) Sedantary work condition (sit at the desk all day and at night when I come home).
3) Inappropriately adjusted chair and desk.
4) Air-conditioned office. I get cold easily. Someone said that it’s because I’m a thin, petite person.
5) Tension.
Nobody at had the same severe problems as I did. I even went to a workers comp doctor who prescribed some weight training exercises. They didn’t really help. Walking breaks didn’t help much either. Doing Callanetics (stretching and toning exercises) helps a lot but I need to do them at least three times a week to feel better. Please reply if you have more comments. I have no way of reaching you two. I just turned on the e-mail function. I wonder if it’s all my fault.

Best Mattress?

I’m deciding between a Tempur-Pedic and a Simmons Beautyrest. What do you suggest?
