new mattress is hurting my back, could this be a transition period?

I had a somewhat firm twin mattress and a week ago I upgraded to a full serta perfect sleeper pillow top and a 2inch memory foam pad i bought from someone for only 300.

I’ve been waking up with neck aches, and some upper back pain, which is wierd because usually i experience lower back pain. Memory foam is supposed to help my spine align correctly, so im wondering if the pain is a result of a transition period?

pain aside, i seem to be sleeping better, and i’ve been able to remember having dreams which is a first!

Thanks for the help, i’m hoping this is a transitional pain?

Memory foam mattress VS. Tempurpedic : Which is better?

After reviewing all the different sites online such as healco.com, Memory Foam Network at http://www.memoryfoamnetwork.com , tempurpedic.com and so on, I have found there is so much info on memoryfoam mattresses that I am kinda confused. Is memory foam different from tempurpedic, or does Tempurpedic just cost more?

is it the foam or the coils that makes you sink into a mattress?

I bought a new simmons beautyrest with pillowtop and when I sit on the bed, I sink deep into it. When I move on the bed, I roll back into the pit I created where I was. I’m going to switch for another mattress, but I’m wondering what is causing this. Is it all the layers of foam (memory foam does this I think) or is it the individual spring coils? My upper body sinks in and my feet (that weigh less) are sort of up in the air, giving the feeling of sleeping downhill.

Should I get a traditional continuous spring mattress (maybe a stearns and foster) with minimal cushion on top? Or just another simmons beautyrest but without the pillowtop (a "firm" or "extra firm" instead)? Hubby and I like the idea of non-transference of movement (I move a ton and he doesn’t move an inch) but if it’s going to make me feel like I’m sleeping "downhill", then we’ll trade that in for firmness.

What is a recommended mattress type for someone who is prone to getting down in her back? Bulging discs, etc.

In the past, I have found that the harder the mattress, the less likely I am to wake up in pain. Currently have a Sealy Posturepedic Premium mattress…the hardest I could find. But now it is approaching time to change it, and I know a lot has been invented since I last purchased. I wonder about Memory Foam. Never tried a water bed. May be other options I need to consider that would give optimum comfort. Generally, the least amont of sagging in a mattress….at the first sign of wear…I start waking in pain that lasts the entire day or longer….and escalates into not being able to stand straight. Any ideas? What have orthopedic doctors recommended? What experience have any of you had with various types…those of you who have backs that are weak like mine.

Bought a Simmons Beautyrest Mattress World Class Super Pillowtop…?

And it super sucks. Bought it in July 2005. And in January/Feb 2006 I started to experience bad aches and pains. Over a course of several months, I went to the DR for all these mysterious pains…even had a mammogram. Nothing could be found, deducted it was stress related–because how could my new mattress cause this?? Anyway, thru massages, relaxation and a new mattress pad…I felt better. So, my mattress definitely has grooves, and dips where we sleep. We aren’t heavy people. Anyway, the mattress sucks, reviews are bad. Besides rotating, does anyone have this mattress–and what have you done? I am thinking about getting one of those memory foam pads–but not sure if that will just be the same problem on top of a problem. Thanks.
